About Jiangsu University

Jiangsu University traces its roots back to Sanjiang Normal School which was founded way back in 1902. The name Jiangsu University first appeared for a brief period of only one month in February 1928 after which it came to be known as Central University and later as Nanjing University. Jiangsu University of Science and Technology came into being when a part of Nanjing University separated and moved to the present day location at Zhenjiang. It was in 2001 that Jiangsu University was finally formed after the merger of Jiangsu University of Science and Technology with Zhenjiang Medical College and Zhenjiang Teacher’s College.

JSU was ranked at 48, 41 and 39 respectively in 2016, 2017 and 2018 in the evaluation of various universities in China. There are total of 25 schools offering 89 undergraduate, 170 postgraduate and 42 Doctoral programs. Location and City

JSU is located in the city of Zhenjiang which is a part of Jiangsu Province. Zhenjiang, located on the northern bank of River Yangtze, is well-known for fragrant black vinegar which is extensively used in the delicious steamed dumplings sold across the city. It is well-connected to the cities of Nanjing and Shanghai via regular as well as CRH bullet trains and is located on Beijing-Shanghai Expressway. Also, Lukou International Airport and Changzhou Benniu Airport are located close to the city.

The entire province of Jiangsu is known for pagodas, Chinese embroidery, silk, jasmine tea and much more. Studying MBBS at JSU

Infrastructure: If you plan to study MBBS in China in 2019, JSU’s School of Medicine is among the top destinations with the world-class infrastructural facilities. There are 20 departments and 2 research institutes apart from 2 centres for experiment-based teaching. Apart from MBBS, it also offers programs like Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science, Master of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Master of Immunology and PhD programs in the fields like paediatrics, oncology, neurology, surgery, emergency medicine and so on.

The teaching staff of 300 includes well-qualified professors and assistant professors. There are nearly 4,000 students studying medicine at the school, out of which nearly 400 hail from the foreign countries including India. There is one directly affiliated hospital, known as Zhenjiang Jiangbin Hospital with facilities for healthcare and rehabilitation, treatment, scientific research and more. Hostels: The dormitory at JSU consists of two types of accommodations –Student Apartments and Guest House. Student Apartments are divided into 8 zones, including one for the foreign students called Overseas Students Apartments. Duration: Usually, MBBS course duration in China is 6 years including one year of internship. JSU allows foreign students to pursue internship in their home countries.

Eligibility: For the Indian students, the two important eligibility conditions are:

  • 60% or more in Physics, Chemistry, Biology combined in Class XII
  • NEET percentile above 80% (rank usually below 200,000)

In addition, other application requirements include:

  • No criminal record
  • English proficiency (IELTS: 6, TOEFL: 70 or equivalent)

Tuition and Other Fees: The annual tuition fee for MBBS at JSU is INR 340,000. If you plan to do internship from India, the total tuition fee for the remaining 5 years would be INR 17 lakhs. The accommodation cost ranges between INR 48,000 and INR 65,000 per year. You may expect to pay INR 80,000 for the first year and around 12,000 per year for the remaining years for other expenses like resident permit, health insurance etc. Cost of living is cheap and you may expect to spend between INR 6,000-12,000 per month.
